2014 Paint a Thon

After taking a two-year break, the Unitarian Churches of Omaha teamed up with the Bemis Park Neighborhood Association to participate in Brush-Up Nebraska’s Paint-A-Thon! Rob Warner of the neighborhood association was the Team Leader, and Alan Vovolka from First Unitarian was the Assistant Leader.

Our assigned house was located on North 41st Street just north of Pinkney St. It is a small single-story home with detached garage. Although the house has steel siding, some of the paint was worn off or stained. The wooden garage was in poor condition.

Prep work was accomplished on August 9 and 15 so that on Saturday, August 16 we could complete the painting and repairs. Most of the windows required re-glazing prior to painting. Before the garage could be painted, some of the team members made substantial structural repairs.

The weather Saturday, August 16, was perfect! By late afternoon painting was completed and the storm windows reinstalled. Parts are needed to complete repairs to the garage door. Robert plans to replace the battered gutters on the house before the end of August.

Thanks to the eight volunteers from Second Unitarian: David Johnson, Larry Kurtz, Sean Mcardle, Roger Nicolaisen, Tom Peterson, Craig & Evan Piquette, and Clyde Anderson. Tom Rundquist brought lunch for the Team. First Unitarian had six volunteers and the Bemis Park Neighborhood Association  had five.

Patricia, the homeowner, was very pleased with big improvement to her home’s appearance.
